Rules of video poker

A video poker screen is similar to a slot machine screen. It shows your potential winnings according to the money you stake and the combination of cards obtained. At the start of each game of video poker, you must indicate your stake and then click on “Bet 1” or “Bet max”. “Bet 1 means that you are betting the amount of the stake you have specified (e.g. 1 euro) and “Bet max” means that you are betting 5 times this amount.

Once you have placed your bet, you must click on “Deal” to obtain your five cards. You may then choose to keep some of the cards you were dealt, with a view to making a winning combination with the second set of cards you will receive. If you keep one card, you will be dealt four new ones in the second deal. If you keep 2, you will receive three new cards and so on, in order to make sure that you are always left with 5 cards.

After the second deal, you win if you have obtained one of the combinations shown on the video poker table. If you don’t have a winning combination, you lose your stake. There are only two deals of cards per game.

Different versions of video poker have different winning combinations. Generally speaking, you need at least a pair of jacks to win at video poker.

Winning combinations in video poker

• Jacks or better: You win if you obtain a pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings or Aces.

• Two pairs: You win if you obtain two pairs (e.g. One pair of 10s and one pair of 3s).

• Three-of-a-kind: You win if you obtain a three-of-a-kind, i.e. 3 cards of identical value.

• Straight: You win if you obtain a straight flush: a run of five cards of sequential rank in different suits (e.g. A,2,3,4,5).

• Flush: You win if you obtain a flush, i.e. 5 cards of the same colour.

• Full house: You win if you obtain a full house, i.e. a three-of-a-kind and a pair (e.g. 8,8,8,3,3).

• Four-of-a-kind: You win if you obtain a four-of-a-kind, i.e. four cards of identical value.

• Straight flush: You win if you obtain a straight flush, i.e. five cards of the same suit in sequence.

• Royal flush: You win if you obtain a royal flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, all of the same suit.

The stronger your combination, the more you will win. Every time you win, video poker offers you the opportunity to double your winnings by immediately playing again.
